Course Languages & Levels
The German levels mentioned in the course descriptions are meant as a guideline only, to help you choose the course that will most likely suit you best.
For the Intermediate course, the course language is almost entirely Swiss German and a good knowledge of German will support you. This means that the most important requirement for the intermediate course is that you can understand slow Swiss German, even if you don’t speak it yet.
If you’re unsure which level is right for you, feel free to email me anytime at
andrea@swissgermanbeginners.ch – I’m happy to help you decide.
In addition to Swiss German, I also speak German, English and French for explanations if needed.

Course description
My Swiss German group courses help you start speaking from the very beginning and feel confident in everyday life in Switzerland.
We focus on real-life topics such as work, hobbies, family, shopping, and everyday conversations. Through dialogues and practical exercises, you learn how to communicate naturally in situations you encounter in daily life.
Grammar is an integral part of the course and always taught in a practical way. We cover verb conjugation, different tenses, articles, pronouns, plurals, possessives, and more — directly connected to speaking and understanding Swiss German.
The content of the beginner and intermediate courses is largely the same, as we start with the basics in both levels. The main difference lies in the language of instruction: in the intermediate courses, I speak almost exclusively Swiss German, while in the beginner courses I explain many things in English or Standard German. The pace is adapted to the level of each group.
If I see that a participant has already attended a group course with me, I adapt the content accordingly so that they can experience a new and fresh course.
This online course takes place live on Zoom. You meet me and other participants in real time. No special technical skills are required.Â
*In this course we focus on the dialect of the canton of Zurich. This dialect has similarities with other Swiss German dialects, such as the dialects spoken in the cantons around Zurich. The knowledge you learn will also be useful for communicating with speakers of other Swiss German dialects
